Bostica
Good Morning Cannabuddies,
and I would like to share my recent enjoyment of Bostica flower.
and I would like to share my recent enjoyment of Bostica flower.
I always check out Blue River Terps in Cambridge for great deals on quality cannabis product. They try to keep a mix of $20-$30 1/8ths that are often quite good, in addition to plenty of premium flower. The Bostica right now is $20 an eighth and comes in three strains:
The Drip was a potent sativa. At just over 30% THC it shouldn't have been any more than I was used to but I haven't had a sativa like that in ages! Very light green nugs with a subtle terpene profile, Drip reminds me of $60 slices I would get ten years ago when $40 was the going price for most good herb, but it was worth it because it really took you to the moon and you only needed to pack one bowl. With the Drip I didn't even cash the bowl out, or come back to it for several hours. For $20 you can really get a lot out of this eighth: however, if your tolerance isn't that high or you are sensitive to sativas, I would say the potential to get really bugged out, unable to focus on external reality, or anxious is very real and it would be worth spending the extra money to get a strain that meets your comfort level.
However, if you look to cannabis to help you relax and enjoy yourself (but not necessarily fall asleep like an anchor on the sofa surrounded by mountains of candy wrappers) check out the Oreoz, a classic indica strain that is both delicious and provides a nice euphoric and relaxing high. Tested at 24.41% THC, this is far less potent than the Drip but still sufficient for all but the heaviest smoker. Mild enough for wake-and-bake and all-day use without falling asleep if you pace yourself. The problem is, one bowl might get you stoned but it's so tasty you'll want another! Of course, night time is the right time to smoke indo. After trying a third strain (see below) I went back to the Oreoz for a second batch as I was in the mood for that indica relaxation and anti-stress benefit, the only thing really lacking from the other two Bostica strains. Also, that old-school KB smell, the sweet, musky tobacco smell of my glass pipe after smoking it...all really brought me back. As I lit up outside on my way to the liquor store, walking suddenly became difficult after a few steps, even before cashing the bowl (which I did anyway, because it was yummy, and also because it's easier to buy beer when you're not clutching a half-smoked bowl in your hand inside your jacket pocket) and it felt like I was walking backwards; time slowed down, I felt at peace and I was able to appreciate the more medicinal benefits of the indica, that I hadn't been getting from the other strains, even though they were more than getting me high. This was probably a week ago and I meant to write it all down but then I thought to myself,
"Why are there so few indica reviews?"
I don't remember...
and laughed.
As I tried the strains in order I actually went down in terms of THC content, which is the opposite of my normal approach. The Mimosa, however, was so strong that it blew my mind. It really had me in an almost psychedelic space for several days. It is listed as only 22.67% but let me say, if you are a heavy smoker do not let that deter you! I thought I would barely notice it, especially after the obvious difference in potency between the first two, but just a few puffs had me in a magical realm. The terpenes are really special in this strain, and I doubt that the specs given tell the whole story. That sweet, sticky citrus it gets from its grandparent Tangie (via parent Clementine) just can't be described in words. Even if it hadn't gotten me buzzed after all, it would still have been worth it just for the taste. And the smell! After a couple days you begin to notice the other flavors as well. The tropical luxuriance of Larry OG, that lemon-fruit-punch essence easily confused with the Tangie, passed on through Purple Punch, not only gives layers of complexity to the sensory experience of passing the smoke back and forth across your tastebuds but also did add a little more of a 'hybrid' effect. All-in-all I thought the Mimosa was the best of the three strains in just about every way. Still, I will be more than eager to try other strains from Bostica in the future. Head down to Blue River and grab some now...it looks like they sold out of the Drip, because likely many people make the same calculus that I have been making, and go for the most THC per dollar. This is not always the wise choice. Quality of herb is no longer the same thing as potency. I thank legalization in MA and stores like Blue River for giving me options, but they also create the potential to just chase THC/$ and set yourself up for frustrations that were far less common when you just handed the guy your money and took whatever was in the plastic sandwich baggy.
