Fave Strains of 2024
Some of my favorite and most memorable strains I've smoked over the past year:
Trop Cherry: Anything from the Tropicanna family is sure to please. Delicious terpenes and a powerful sativa head-high balanced by the tropical flavors providing more of a well-balanced hybrid mood boost. Got some of the flower from High Mark about a year ago; I still remember that as being a significant high that didn't just effervesce in 15 minutes. Then I had a pre-roll pack for New Year's Eve - I was able to be incredibly, satisfyingly high all day long, have a few drinks, and still stay up through Return of the King (Extended Edition) and to watch the ball drop.
Runtz: Maybe the best strain of all time? From wake-and-bake (you're gonna have the best day of your life!) to right before passin' out on the couch watching the same sitcoms (sweet dreams) it's always a good time to smoke Runtz. Not overwhelming, but certainly whelming, usually testing around 27% THC, a well-balanced Hybrid all-around, with delicious fruity flavor, the perfect blend of linalool and limonene up-front. And those golden-purple nugs! From the first time I tried this shit, almost two years ago, before I had discovered Blue River Terps, and had gotten it first at Western Front, I was in love with Runtz! And since I have only confirmed that assessment, with Runtz from several growers, including Harbor House; as well as a variety of Runtz descendants...but that's another article!
Cake Crasher: I got an eighth of this stuff from Harbor House back in April. Just read the review. 2023 was all about wedding cake strains. I was just thinking I haven't had any cake in a while. This shit was good. Also I miss Harbor House; haven't seen their products at Blue River in a minute. They make good gummies, too.
Mimosa: Since I first tried some off the black market in 2019, dry flower in plastic baggie unsealed, terpenes long lost, I loved Mimosa. I don't know why, since I can't have appreciated its fragrance, flavor or aesthetics in that condition. It must be the euphoric, almost spiritual high. This might be from the SFV lineage. I was smoking some really strong weed last year but I decided to take a chance on this lower-potency batch of Mimosa from Bostica. Now say what you will about my overly enthusiastic review of a company that, OK, doesn't really make the best weed; but I was so excited by the Mimosa, Man, it really had me high, like I wouldn't even bother cashing the bowl...
Gelato: A parent of the above Runtz strain, Gelato is possibly more delicious, more relaxing and more intoxicating. I grabbed an eighth for my birthday this summer from Originals, arguably the best brand I smoked last year, overall. I rolled a joint and at the time I thought it was just the rosin I put in it, but we went to the movies and I came back from smoking as the movie was about to start and I couldn't get my knees to bend so I could sink back into my seat, I was just standing there like Kramer in his tight jeans unable to sit down, except this was some sort of malfunctioning of the muscular tension necessary for basic locomotion; eventually I managed to get into my seat somehow...I forget what the movie was, it wasn't very good and no one else enjoyed it but I was having a great time! But when I went home and kept smoking the Gelato by itself it didn't seem like it needed the rosin to get me that high. The shit was listed as 39 or 40% THC, which is ridiculous and I don't trust the numbers but still, damn! For Christmas I grabbed some more; now Originals makes bigger bags, I got a half for $75, not quite as potent but still, really good. Only problem was I kept falling asleep, but you could also blame it on the cookies and eggnog...
THC you in 2025...
