SFV OG (Favorite Things)
San Fernando Valley OG Kush by Originals
This review should have to wait to Christmas, as it's going to be full of a few of my favorite things. First of all, yesterday I grabbed a HALF of SFV OG Kush by Originals for UNDER EIGHTY BUCKS at Blue River Terps on Tax-Free Thursday
!
San Fernando Valley OG Kush is a fire cut of a classic strain (OG Kush) and said to have more cerebral sativa-like effects than other OGs. It will definitely wake you up as I can attest after baking this morning! But now let me sip my coffee for a while as I contemplate this perfect high...which to me is ultimately a hybrid feeling of balanced mental and physical effects...likewise, a sweet and slightly spicy bouquet, a little fruity but not dessert-like, almost humble and yet satisfying compared to Originals' Gelato, for example. The brand specializes in OG Kush and other classic strains...again, the Gelato is perfect, extremely potent, aromatic, relaxing and flavorful: SFV is just slightly lower on the THC, and again more sativa or hybrid in effect, which makes it less incapacitating but by no means subtle: a great go-to smoke for any time of day, energy levels and emotional equilibrium are boosted or sustained while simple activities become more engaging and pleasurable.
I have also tried their Oakstradam cut of OG Kush; not as impressive, but still a good smoke, more relaxing and indica-dominant but not as heavy as their Gelato. Their Jack Herer, a legendary, highly fragrant haze high in terpinolene, is great to have for daytime smoking and also available in economic half-ounces of small buds. But I was really happy to have gotten to try the SFV earlier this year, to cap off my research of one of the most impressive lineages in modern cannabis breeding.
San Fernando Valley OG Kush: A kick-ass cut of OG, is the parent of
Larry OG: A perfectly balanced hybrid; when I tried it, just the one time almost two years ago when I still used to go to Western Front, I thought this could be the greatest strain of all time...certainly one of the best I tried from those guys, and while it has been a while and I have tried MANY strains since then, and gotten used to stronger and more flavorful weed, the other strain I said that about back then from Western Front was Runtz, and I have confirmed and would stand by Runtz as one of the best; but I sure would like to try some Larry OG again, which when crossed with Granddaddy Purple (which I would also love to try) produced:
Purple Punch: This one I had been waiting to try, because of how good its parent Larry OG and its children (see below) had proven, as it were a link between two of the best strains of legal weed I had tried early on; a year ago I finally got my hands on an eighth from Altitude, which is a cheap company selling budget-priced weed that is not in the best condition of freshness and preservation. It was low in THC (relative to what I smoke anyway) dry and lacking much fragrance; yet the subtle flavor managed to cut through the ash and resin of my dirty pipe and the high, while not satisfying the indica-fiend sitting on my left shoulder, left the angel on my right pleasantly at one with the universe. Purple Punch's amazing children include the following:
-Mimosa: A cross of Purple Punch and Clementine (which descends from famously delicious Tangie, in turn a child of the legendary Cali O) this sativa combines the powerful punch of the SFV lineage with the aesthetics, terpenes and magic of Tangie/California Orange: beautiful thick and glossy orange hairs that shine and smell like a citrus plantation. I first tried this on the black market in 2019 and it was one of the few strains that caught my attention back then; I have since confirmed that it is an almost unbeatable sativa, even when lower in cannabinoids and purchased from a budget line like Bostica. I was also fortunate to try Blue River's house-made Mimosa rosin and it was I think the most wonderful cannabis fragrance I have ever experienced.
-Papaya Purple Punch: Bountiful Farms put out a decent batch of this strain which, as the name implies crosses Papaya with Purple Punch, a while back and I enjoyed the fluffy nugs of creamy delicious linalool dominance but the high was not quite there; then I recently tried some from Wellman Farms and not only was it even fruitier but the high was unbelievable---it was incredibly potent, yet the high came on so peacefully I found myself in a state of complete relaxation and oneness.
-Modified Punch: Along with Mimosa, one of the strains that impressed me the most when I tried them on the black market back in 2019 was GMO, aka Garlic Cookies. GMO is still one of my faves and deserves its own lineage lineup like this one here; for example when crossed with Purple Punch it gives us Modified Punch, one of the first strains I tried of legal weed almost three years ago when I was home from work with COVID and got a couple of deliveries. The smell, the taste, the high all made this the "Goldilocks" of the three strains I tried and while it has been a while, I still think this is arguably one of the best strains around.
Did I mention grabbing this from the dispensary on the same day the mailman brought my amanita muscaria with the mail?
(Wait) Oh, yes, wait a minute, Mr. Postman
(Wait) wait, Mr. Postman
Please Mr. Postman, look and see (oh, yeah)
Is there a letter in your bag for me (please, please Mr. Postman)
Yes, it's been a mighty long time (oh, yeah)
